HAZARDOUS SLUDGE TREATMENT THROUGH CARBONIZATION TECHNOLOGY

HAZARDOUS SLUDGE TREATMENT THROUGH CARBONIZATION TECHNOLOGY

Following closely to success of the Plastic and paper waste recycling project, CUES Japan and Vina-CUES are now promoting another business in the field of hazardous sludge treatment through a very new and advanced technology, namely the Carbonization technique. This project is also located in Hung Yen province with the involvement of 02 Japanese Companies and 01 Vietnamese Hazardous Waste Treatment Company.

As a branch-new treatment technique in Vietnam, this technology uses a Carbonization furnace manufactured by Takasago Industry Co., Ltd (Japan) to convert hazardous sludge into carbonized residues, which can be reused as soil amendment material, activated carbon for water treatment, snow melting products,…Several typical advantages of this technology are: (1) no emission of Carbon dioxide (CO2) due to organic matter thermolysis takes place without oxygen; (2) lower operating costs with 80% reduction of fuel consumption and one-sixth reduction of maintenance costs.

According to the official document No. 2719/BTNMT-TCMT issued by the Vietnam Environment Administration (VEA) on 28th May, 2018 approving the project owner to carry out the demonstration tests within a fixed schedule of 6 months, the test results have shown the feasibility of this technique, in terms of both economical and technical aspects. Based on that, Joint-Venture among the stakeholders are now being under discussion for further sustainable collaboration.
