PLASTIC
Plastic is becoming more and more popular and widely used in society. Today, plastic has become an indispensable part of everyday life. From media, entertainment, health, to energy conservation in solar transport and use, water and wind power, plastics are playing a major role in our daily lives in the future.
However, due to negative environmental influences and impacts, as well as low awareness of consumers, plastic is now considered the biggest cause of environmental pollution. Many organizations and people are boycotting using plastic products, but they are not clear about the different types of plastics to take proper environmental protection action.
Below, we would like to introduce some of the popular plastics today:
PET – Polyethylene Terephthalate is used in plastic bottles for water, food wrappers, clothing and carpets. This is the most popular plastic, disposable, easy to recycle, but can not be used under high temperatures or in the microwave.
HDPE – Polyethylene is widely used in the manufacture of milk bottles, plumbing pipes and natural pipes. This plastic is durable, can be used many times, resistant to heat and chemicals, and cannot be used in a microwave.
PVC – Polyvinyl Chloride is commonly used in plastic pipes, electrical cables, blood bags. It is also used in toys. This type is soft and flexible, but contains a lot of toxicity, under temperatures greater than 70 degrees will cause the osmosis of dangerous substances that can cause cancer, so you should not store or wrap food.
LDPE – Polyethylene has low density, is used to make chemical jars, gloves, packaging … This is a good plastic, resistant to impact, chemicals, resistant to middle temperature below 95 degrees, cannot be used in a microwave.
PP – Polypropylene is used in car construction – making them lighter by using less fuel. Money made from this plastic is difficult to damage and lasts longer. This plastic is safe, durable, resistant to impact and heat, can be used in a microwave, and can be reused many times.
PS – Polystyrene is widely used in food packaging such as meat and vegetable trays, TV making, music players, … This plastic is light, easy to transport, however if used under high temperatures or environment more alkaline, acid, it is easy to release harmful substances.
Others – Other plastics not mentioned above. This contains both durable and good plastic, heat-resistant, non-toxic, microwave-resistant (7-TRITAN) and cheaper, durable but more toxic PC plastic.
Instead of not using plastic anymore, we are researching technologies from Japan to recycle plastic in Vietnam. Using this plastic resource can also promote the petrochemical industry, increase oil demand, and develop the plastic recycling industry into a new resource. Increasing knowledge about the differentiation of plastic also increases the sense of separating waste from the source, making it easier to collect and recycle, reduce plastic emissions into the environment, and reduce environmental pollution.
